
A man in his 80s riding his mobility scooter has tragically died after a horror crash involving a car at a pedestrian crossing. The incident occured in when a silver Volkswagen Passat was driving along the A229, Royal Engineers road, towards Maidstone on Friday.
It collided with the man at a pedestrian crossing near Maidstone Library, Kent Police said. Emergency services rushed to the scene and the elderly man was taken to hospital in London, but he died from his injuries the next day. The driver, a man in his 40s, was arrested and then released on bail pending further enquiries.
Kent Police is now appealling for witnesses and anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
The force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit is conducting an investigation into the crash.
It said: "Anyone who saw the incident, or events leading up to it, is urged to contact police.
