Thursday was the UK’s hottest June day on record with a provisional temperature of 36.4C recorded in Yeovilton, Somerset, surpassing the high of 36.1C set on Wednesday in Gosport, Hampshire, the Met Office said. The previous record for the UK's highest June temperature was 35.6C set in 1957 and equalled 1976.

This was just short of the UK's all-time high of 40.3C set in 2022. Last night was provisionally the warmest June night on record in the UK. It was a difficult night for sleeping as overnight temperatures in Cardiff didn’t drop below 23.5C, marking a new Welsh record. Meanwhile, Pymouth only dropped to 23.0C, making it the highest June minimum temperature for Wales.

The UK also provisionally set a new daily maximum air temperature record for June, with 36.1C reported at Gosport, Hampshire yesterday.
