The Met Office has announced temperatures hit 33.5C at Heathrow today, May 25 - beating the all-time May record. That provisionally further extends the record for the UK's hottest May day, which was broken just under half an hour ago.

Under an hour ago 32.9C was recorded at Heathrow and since the temperature has risen further to over 33C. This makes it not only the hottest May day on record, but also the hottest bank holiday Monday ever recorded, surpassing the 33.3C reached during the August bank holiday in 2019. The previous May record stood at 32.8C, according to the Met Office.

It is highly likely we will continue to see the temperature rise over the next few hours, an eye watering 35C is forecast in Lincolnshire, the Midlands, western parts of East Anglia and southwards into the London area.
