It has been a scorching week across the UK with further hot weather forecast in the coming weeks. According to the latest weather maps from WX Charts, a number of areas will see temperatures of 30C or over on Tuesday, July 7 and Wednesday, July 8.
The maps turn red across the nation once again with widespread hot temperatures expected in 32 counties. The mercury is expected to hit 36C in London at 6pm on July 8 with a number of other areas braced for conditions of 33C or higher. It comes after the UK broke its maximum temperature record for a third consecutive day on Friday, with 37.3C reached at Santon Downham in Suffolk. A number of other areas recorded temperatures over the previous record of 35.6C which was reached in 1957 and 1976.
On July 7, the maps show temperatures hitting 34C in London at 6pm. Meanwhile, the mercury will also hit 33C in a number of other areas as the nation basks in more sunshine.
Separately, the Met Office's long-range forecast for the UK, which runs from Thursday, July 2 until Saturday, July 11, forecasts widespread dry and sunny conditions. Temperatures are expected to be "slightly warmer than average in the south".
The Met Office said: "A drier start to July for most. Cloudier towards the west, otherwise a good deal of sunshine for most. Some northwestern parts may still see rain on occasion, perhaps accompanied by strong winds at times.
"Temperatures are likely to start off near average in the north and slightly warmer than average in the south, but fairly widely tending to increase further as high pressure dominates the weather into the second week of July, especially across England and Wales."
The UK has seen boiling weather this week with the Met Office recently extending the amber extreme heat warning into Sunday morning (June 28). The forecaster described the record temperatures as "unprecedented for June", adding the heat is "another marker on how climate change is shifting the dial on temperature extremes in the UK".
In its forecast for the next five days, the Met Office is expecting warm and dry weather into Sunday before temperatures drop slightly on Monday. However, it will remain dry with some light winds making conditions more pleasant.
The following counties will see temperatures of 30C or over on Tuesday, July 7 or Wednesday, July 8 according to WX Charts
